Monitoring and Evaluation of Salmonid Habitat Restoration Validation Monitoring

This data documents fish response to fish passage and instream habitat restoration treatments. Juvenile salmonid snorkel surveys are conducted pre-treatment and post-treatment. Pool dimensions (length and width), maximum residual pool depth, temperature, flow, and water quality data are also recorded. Minnow traps are deployed in the vicinity of restoration treatments when stream conditions or hazards prevent snorkel observations or where additional monitoring methods are deemed necessary to determine juvenile salmonid presence. Winter Salmonid spawner surveys of potential redds, adult spawners, and carcasses are also performed. Survey data includes a 0.038 MB Snorkel Survey database and a 0.043 MB Spawner Survey database. This data and metadata were submitted by California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Staff though the Data Management Plan (DMP) framework with the id: DMP000237. Monitoring and Evaluation of Salmonid Habitat Restoration (MESHR) Effectiveness Monitoring

Effectiveness monitoring of a randomized selection of 10% of Fisheries Habitat Restoration (Fisheries Restoration Grants Program and Forest Land Anadromous Restoration) habitat restoration projects in the North Coast Hydrologic Region. Survey assesses the effectiveness of habitat restoration projects and treatment types based on qualitative assessment ratings of habitat response from a sample of individual treatment features for a range of project types. Survey assesses the effectiveness of given treatment types through both qualitative ratings and quantitative metrics evaluated both pre- and post-restoration project implementation. 6.276 MB This data and metadata were submitted by California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Staff though the Data Management Plan (DMP) framework with the id: DMP000236. Monitoring and Evaluation of Salmonid Habitat Restoration (MESHR) Before After Control Impact (BACI)

MESHR has been testing an approach focused on habitat metrics and fish response for determining effectiveness of large wood treatments. Data is collected using an adapted protocol from the Washington State Salmon Recovery Funding Board (Crawford 2011) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (Kaufmann et al. 1999) to methodically measure habitat characteristics in stream reaches for a subsample of large wood installation projects using a Before-After, Control-Impact (BACI) study design. Large wood, residual water and pool depths, percent occurrence of particular substrates, substrate embeddedness, fish cover, and snorkel validation data are documented. 1.092 MB. Fall Chinook Escapement - Klamath Basin Watershed

Adult salmonid data collected from various areas within the Klamath basin watershed. Various tributaries are monitored using video systems (Bogus Creek, Shasta River, Scott River), other areas are monitored using redd/carcass surveys, and Iron gate Hatchery adult returns. The main purpose of the data is to estimate escapement of fall Chinook slamon, although data on other species (steelhead, coho salmon) also collected. For more information on the various collection methods, please view the specific metadata document included with the data download. This data and metadata were submitted by California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Staff though the Data Management Plan (DMP) framework with the id: DMP000381. Central Valley Angler Survey Database

The Central Valley Angler Survey, or CVAS, monitors sport fisheries in the Sacramento River system, from the Carquinez Strait to Keswick Dam near Redding, and on the lower Mokelumne, Yuba, Calaveras, American, and Feather rivers. CVAS was a year-round survey from 1991-1994, 1998-2002, and 2006-2016, and included the Yuba and Calaveras rivers during portions of those periods. During fiscal years (FY) 2017-2020, CVAS was scaled back to a 5-1/2 month survey, focused on the Chinook Salmon sport fishery from July 16 through December 31, but resumed year-round surveying beginning FY 2021. Data are collected to estimate angler effort, catch, and harvest of key species using expansions of spatially and temporally stratified data. Data collected from 1991 through 2016 were used to generate estimates of fishing effort, catch, and harvest of Chinook Salmon, steelhead trout, Rainbow Trout, White Sturgeon, Sacramento Splittail (2007-2016), Striped Bass, and American Shad. During fiscal years 2017-2020, CVAS focused only on generating estimates of fishing effort, catch, and harvest of Chinook Salmon in support of the West Coast Chinook Salmon management process. Data collected are based on eight survey runs per month in each of 24-27 survey sections that cover the entire survey area. Data include counts of boats and angling parties in each survey section to estimate fishing effort on a daily timestep. Data are also collected during angler interviews and include information about individual angler effort, and biological data on the catch. Heads are collected from Chinook Salmon that possess a clipped adipose fin to recover coded-wire tags that provide information about the hatchery origin of the fish. Biological information collected on the catch of anglers encountered by survey staff. Data includes location, species, length, weight, any external markings or tags observed, scale sample collection information, and sex of fish. This data and metadata were submitted by California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Staff though the Data Management Plan (DMP) framework with the id: DMP000421.
